Our Goal

Under The Tree Foundation aims to contribute to projects in Tanzania, which are focused on increasing community development and nature conservation by incentivizing sustainable dairy farming and production.

Our Project(s)

Our first operation will be to support the establishment of an environmentally sustainable milk coöperative and production facility in the Serengeti region.

Our Policy

The foundation will be focused on providing support to sustainable development projects as follows:

  • Providing assistance in acquiring the necessary funds and donations to cover the investment costs and wage costs of starting and ongoing projects and to cover the investment costs and wage costs of future new projects.
  • Providing expertise where needed for the development projects.
  • Maintaining communication with Dutch partner organizations and potential (government) funds.

Income will be obtained by donations and fundraising. A small part of the profit of the exerted projects will flow back into the foundation to spend on other projects. Donations can be received via direct donation on the website, or via third parties such as GoFundMe or Crowdfunding. Assets will be managed by the treasurer and all expenses will be transparent and accounted for through 6-monthly updates on our website. Income will be used to cover necessary costs for projects selected, to compensate for expenses made by the board, and to pay wages to employees of the foundation.

The Board

The board will consist of the following members:

  • Chairwoman: Judith Alkema
  • Secretary and Treasurer: Joost Kaan

Wages for the director(s) and employees will be based on the Dutch CAO. Furthermore, the Foundation will also employ volunteers, who will receive no payment. The board will not receive wages, but may be compensated for costs made for the work, such as travel costs. The board members can be hired as employees of the foundation. In that case, they will receive wages for the work they were hired for.

Account of Activities

The foundation will publish every 1st of January an account of activities exerted over the past year.

2024

Although the foundation has not been officially installed yet, some pre-work has been conducted on a voluntary basis. The work has concentrated around:

  • Creating a team (board and volunteers) in The Netherlands
  • Gaining knowledge on dairy farming, milk processing, and coöperative
  • Gaining knowledge on how to start up a milk processing facility in Tanzania
  • Finding partners in Tanzania
  • Finding suitable experts in Tanzania and in The Netherlands who could aid with the project

In the past month, a GoFundMe has been started, which will continue into the next year.
